Preparing For Your Overnight Sleep Diagnostic Appointment:

Questions About Sleep Aide Usage During Your Overnight Sleep Diagnostic Appointment:

If you have additional questions regarding medication usage, contact SleepSomatics at 512.323.9253 during daytime administrative hours prior to your overnight sleep diagnostic appointment date.

Can you provide me with a sleep aide for my diagnostic?

Federal law requires a licensed physician to prescribe, provide, or direct usage of medications. If you would like to take a sleep aide during your diagnostic, please contact your physician prior to your diagnostic sleep appointment so your physician can provide you a prescription or sample.

Can I take a sleep aide or sedative during my diagnostic?

Many patients use sleep aides or sedative medications to help them sleep during their diagnostic. If your physician has provided you with any medications, please follow your physician’s directions. It is advised that patients consult with their physician before changing, altering, or discontinuing any medication usage.

Will a sleep aide affect my diagnostic?

Sleep aide and sedative medication usage is common for many patients, and many physicians encourage their use to help patients fall asleep.

What time should I take my sleep aide?

Take your medications at the time designated by your physician. If your physician did not designate a time, it is advised that patients take their sleep aide before 11:00 PM.

Can I take a sleep aide after 11:00 PM?

Patients should always follow their physician’s orders or prescriptions. The 11:00 PM suggestion is intended to assist patients in falling asleep within a reasonable period of time. If you feel unable to drive home following your diagnostic, you are encouraged to call for a ride to drive you home. Regardless of when you take any sleep aides or medications (before or after 11:00 PM), your diagnostic will end at the pre-scheduled time.
